When testing, connect the red and black test pens to the two ends of the capacitor respectively, and observe the swing angle of the needle. The greater the capacity, the greater the swing of the needle.
After swinging to a certain value, it will go back to the vicinity of the maximum value. The larger the displayed value, the greater the leakage resistance of the capacitor. Generally, the normal electrolytic capacitor is hundreds of kΩ or more, and other capacitors are large. If the measured capacitance makes the needle swing similar to the normal capacitance (which can be compared and measured), and the leakage resistance is large, it indicates that the capacitance is good, otherwise it is abnormal.
After one measurement, exchange the positions of the two test leads to measure again, which is convenient for comparing and judging the quality of the capacitor. For electrolytic capacitors, this can also determine its positive and negative poles: in the two measurements, the black pen with the largest leakage resistance is connected to the positive pole of the capacitor, and the red pen is connected to the negative pole. It should be noted that the reverse leakage resistance of some electrolytic capacitors is small, often tens to several kΩ, but the forward leakage resistance is basically normal. Most of these capacitors are products of poor quality or stored for too long, so do not use them.
